Anna Maria Horner Out of Print Jackpot

Out of Print Anna Maria Horner Jackpot!

Before I left for the great Cape Escape with Angela-Girl, I did something I'd been putting off:
Cataloged all of my fabric.

Making a List, Checking It Twice

After two years of collecting I now know that there are two lines that are my favorites (and why, oh why didn't I know this when they were in print and easier to come by?). Anyone who's been to my home or read this blog for a while can guess what they are: Anna Maria Horner's Garden Party and Good Folks.

Garden Party and Good Folks Rainbow Pre-Cape

I cataloged all of my fabric...not just those two lines, but also my AMH Little Folks Voile, Folksy Flannels, Sandi Henderson's Meadowsweet, Sandy Gervais, scraps, etc., etc. Gave me a hand cramp and made me realize with all the time I spend at a computer keyboard, my handwriting is really going downhill. I filled my red Moleskin with chicken scratches and notations in preparation of my much anticipated visit to Tumbleweed Quilts in West Barsnstable on Cape Cod!

Poor Angela-Girl isn't a fabric gal, so she relaxed in the air-conditioned rental car with the latest New Yorker while I oohed and ahhed inside the adorable (and huge) shop.

The staff was incredibly helpful, and when they told me they didn't have too much Anna Maria Horner, mostly older bits and some in the clearance room, I could hardly contain my glee! Filed in with the other Freespirit designers and stacked in the back clearance area, I found my own personal jack pot:

AMH Festival in Tangerine, Fortune in Chocolate,
Table Cloth in Brown, Mingling in Rose,
Dance Floor in Burgundy

The Table Cloth and Mingling were on clearance, $5 a yard, so I had to buy four of each, of course. And when I found the Festival in Tangerine, I could have cried: I have been coveting that print for months and have been unable to find it anywhere--Etsy, eBay, etc. I snagged what was left on the bolt: just over four yards. I'm thinking of trying my hand at garment sewing--I think the pattern would make a cute summer sun dress or skirt.

Another item crossed off my list: starting a stash of Kona Cotton Solids:

Kona Cottons: Grass Green, Kiwi, Jade Green, Emerald,
Eggplant, Rich Red, Bright Pink, Pomegranate, Orange,
Corn Yellow

I did jot down the colors as they were cut but I'm not entirely sure which is which so please don't count on my caption above to make any certain purchases. I had a sample of scraps from my AMH collection that I used to figure out which colors I wanted to start with. I've been looking on the web for recommendations on Kona Cottons to pick up to use as blenders for Garden Party  and Good Folks and haven't seen any lists, so here's mine for any who are interested:

~*Grass Green
~*Kiwi
~*Jade Green
~*Emerald
~*Eggplant
~*Rich Red
~*Bright Pink
~*Pomegranate
~*Orange
~*Corn Yellow

I'm learning the power of solids and neutral blenders--I have some Fat Quarters coming in next week from the Michael Miller Ta Dot line~I'll keep you posted on how that works. I'm off to the cutting table and the Lady Singer...more to come!

Candy Love

The house is nearly ready {a few things left to shove in drawers, under the bed and under the couch!} the jewelry is done {well, there are at least 50 more things I'd like to make and I'm not quite done writing on tiny pricetags...takes much longer than I thought!} the 96 cozies are sewn {but need to be trimmed and plumped with tissue packs} the decorations are all here {but not hung!} the food list is written {but still need to get to costco!}

But

We're getting there.

Had myself a mini candy-cane break and thought of the lovely gals who are participating--KimKitch Kim, O-Snap! Cindy, LaurenCards Lauren, RedHouse Anna~*~*~without them this wouldn't be possible.  <3 to them as we work like elves the next 48 hours to pull this off.

See you Sunday! Chez Terez! Call for directions or check your email!

Candy dish earrings

Candy Dish resparkle earrings
With 9 days to go until the Open Study/Holiday Bazaar, things are in full swing at Chez Terez.  Lately I've been fascinated by the refashioning/resparkling of vintage jewels into new modern pieces. After working in the studio today I realized all my creations were starting to resemble confectionary delights...for the ears.

Don't these remind you of gold-foil-wrapped chocolate eggs?

Triple threat

Three-peas-in-a-pod
So remember a few weeks ago when I told you about the sewing box that came in the mail?

There were some wonderful beads and baubles slipped in extra by the terrific Etsy seller LookWhatIFound.

I had been eyeing these green beauties for some time, not sure what to do with them. Split them up? Sell them as components in three different pair of earrings? The more I thought about it the more I realized they are more like three-peas-in-a-pod (per earring).

Sometimes you make a pair that you just can't part with, and this is one of them. Nope. Sorry. NFS. Not for sale.

And oh how I love them! So lightweight and pretty~they are my current favorites in my jewel box. And now I am on the hunt scavenging for broken vintage necklaces to add to my vintage bead stash. More to come...

By the way, they looked great with my unplanned ensemble today that I like to call: Triple Leopard Threat

Triple Leopard Threat
Hee hee! KRR caught this photo of me while I was digging through my two leopard bags (daily carry-alls in the fall for me) wearing a--you guessed it--leopard print sweater.  The green globes worked nicely with this getup, don't you think?

PS. I was given this awesome Teresa Barbie for my birthday many years ago by the Chicken Lady. Looks a little familar, eh?

Look what I found

As I continue with my obsession with All Things Vintage in the sewing department, I had to share my most recent acquisition:

The trifecta: vintage Singer 301, antique wooden sewing
basket and chaise lounge in my sewing corner

You are probably wondering, what in the heck is that magnificent piece of furniture?

You might recognize her a little bit more easily if you see her in her buttoned up form:

Sewing box closed up

But I like her better with her red underpinnings showing!

She's a vintage sewing box with beautiful curvy legs and a sturdy handle. I ordered her on Tuesday when my $33 of birthday money (one dollar for every year!) was burning a hole in my pocket. I found her on the superb etsy site LookwhatIfound.    I ordered her Tuesday and by Friday night she was waiting at my door, beautifully packaged with clear directions on how to put her back together (legs don't travel so well!). As I was following the careful handwritten directions, putting each screw back into place, I kept hearing little bits rolling around in the drawers.

I figured it was more screws or hardware.

I was wrong.

I opened the drawers and started unwrapping the bits of tissue and tape and found to my extreme delight--bits of vintage beads and baubles in each drawer. Each bit of tissue unfolded to a squeal of delight--vintage glass, lucite, shell, crystal, jars, vials~it was as if the dear seller knew I would love and appreciate these items as a jewelry designer:

Vintage beads and baubles

A wonderful example of a seller going above and beyond. A good lesson to learn as I prepare for my holiday bazaar. Please visit her store!
